I don't know much about boards, but my web team always goes with vBulletin and I've never heard a complaint with it. Then again, I don't manage that stuff!

Yep, if we had a paying membership I would have gone with VBulletin to begin with. It's generally regarded as the best option of popular bulletin board software.

why not? i mean i thought that u guys dont know wat to move on to, so might as well make gondee the pro and learn exploits/patches so this place stays alive, you know?

If you go to PHPBB3 will you have to start everything again or can you try and just move everything over? eg all of the different themes for the board.

Gondee is not a Linux guru, we have to accept that we/Gondee will need support and security patches. If we stay with PHPBB2 and a hacker attacks the site there is no way to lock down the security hole.

That's why we have to move to a newer "supported" system. PHPBB3 is the path of least resistance, Gondee is familiar with it and it is the most compatible solution.

We'll try to move everything we can over. Not everything will be able to be moved across - I'm pretty sure we'll lose the arcade scores, probably won't bring the shop over unless vix changes her mind. But the KB, Scoreboard, etc, should all be in the next version.

I plan on learning PHP after I graduate, but we always want to move to bigger and better if we can rather than sticking with an expired piece of software. Upgrading to phpbb 3 makes the most sense as that is where all the energy of the community will be directed.

Yeah Bennie, I'm really sorry. It's almost guaranteed we'll lose the arcade scores. I can create a knowledge base with all the top scores, but there's no way the old scores will be updated to any new arcade we get.

Trust me when I say the arcade scores will by far be the biggest loss. We've got 4 years of scores on that arcade, and I wish we could continue to use it. If phpbb 2 would still be updated I'd stick with it, but as it is we need to upgrade, and the person who created our arcade is not creating one for phpbb 3 - which means we'll have to reinstall all the games and stuff from scratch.

I wouldn't use the same games (only if someone asks for a specific game maybe) but If all the scores'll be deleted i would pick new games...
O yeah will our game time be deleted (cuz I have 230 hours) or'll everybody start from 0 ??

yeah but like gondee said they'll need to startup everything again, from scratch so I guess that'll just take new games... I can help with that altough :cheers

im just glad to hear that the scoreboards will remain intact...i sincerely pity the fool that would have to reinsert all the times/scores for all the tracks in all the games....what a nightmare that would be.

During that brief period where I did the scoreboard, I learned to hate it so fast -- lol.
