The thing that I just HATE about this game is how it's all about competitive, beating friends times, racing against ghosts... It's so cold (in the literal and figurative sense). The game brought in a lot of great stuff, but the things I loved about past SSX games are completely gone, and the longer this game's been out the more I notice what this game's missing. Not to say it's a bad game - it's not - but it's just another Blur/OT entry to me. Every time I go on the merq chat I annoy people with my ranting about everything this game isn't.

I just feel like the new SSX loses all the charm of the SSX Trilogy. I just want to have fun races against AI and friends, splitscreen, realtime racing against friends, the ability to personalize my characters (3-style, I know they couldn't prioritize this and I understand), character interaction. I want to get sucked into the game but instead I just get pissed off because all I'm ALLOWED to do is beat my friends records and continuously have to beat some arbitrary score that I don't even care about. Online doesn't fix anything, GEs are just temporary Explore competitions where I can make easy cash, that just seems to get easier and easier to obtain with all these weekend events.

I look at this game as it was intended, a reboot of the SSX franchise. But I feel as thought there's a huge chunk of this game that's just not SSX. Maybe it's the realism, I don't know. Throughout dev it was said this game takes motivation from SSX Tricky and 3, but I barely see any of it other than the familiar character faces, crazy track designs and tricks (which are an important part of SSX). It just feels like there's a missing layer... It looks like SSX, it plays like SSX, but it's not SSX.

It might be kind of the same way I felt about Saints Row 3. A fun game on it's own, but it was missing so much of the charm that I loved from Saints Row 2. Saints Row 3 almost felt like a complete down grade from it's prequel.

I'm probably going to take a bit of a break from this game until I can chill out about it. I've been playing it a lot for the past 2 months and only find myself getting more and more frustrated with it, just because of how competitive it is. I love this game, I love Batty, Connor, Jeff, Justin and everyone else I've spoken to on dev and my feelings are purely based on nostalgia and not on the game itself. I absolutely adore this game and it's my GOTY (game of the past 5 years maybe), but I just don't feel the same passion for this game as I did for SSX 3.

Kav, your babies. I must have them.

Your post pretty much summed up what i've been trying to figure out in my head for months but couldn't put my finger on it. QFT.

The new game is great/ even the most difficult tracks I can master with a little effort. I've got gold on 166 out of 168. Just 2 races in africa and I'm done/
I didn't like the wingsuit at first - but that was because I was hopeless at it/ now I can soar with the best of them I love it.
Yes - sometimes its TOO fast ... the tricking is too fast for me. I have to use a lower spec board or no mods. I can score better that way.
The real problem for me with this game is sheer addictiveness. I must have played 4 or 5 hours a day minimum since March 2nd. My hands are wrecked. One more hit on the crack pipe/ just one more hit sweet jesus/

Don't get me wrong I'm all for change but I just don't think it works. Burnout had it right, they made a change to free roaming and that worked really well, in fact burnout paradise is one of my favourite ever games. I did like SSX at first, played the demo for hours getting to 30 million on bulldog but when you think back to the older games it has just left out so much of what made SSX great!

The survival concept is just really crap too, i'm sorry but who wants the risk of death, oxygen, pulse goggles, wingsuits, reverse camera avalanches are all just crappy little gimmicks!

in terms of what your rider can do, it's TOO over the top.

Also CoD is awesome stop hatin' fools!

Erm on global events usually platinum, sometimes diamond, sometimes gold on race events.

It was probably more than 2 weeks. I have been on it quite a bit.

I've not got many explore medals because I just don't want to play tracks that I hate. Add me on xbox if you want chez XD.

I have two characters to level 11 so the good boards. I have given it a chance honestly.

I agree that you have given the game a chance, but i'll give you a challenge that I bet would change your mind a bit.

Get all medals on Explore-mode. You can save Africa and Grand Goliat to be your end monsters.
Level up characters along the way. Focus on buying high level epic and legendary gear and boards. Tip. If you need some quick millions place Silver or better in High Stakes Global Events. Don't give a drop more than 7 retries, you can always come back for it later. In the end I guarantee you will start to like at least some of the races with crevasses that you now hate, and there really aren't that many.

Next time I go on I will do some more explore, it feels like such a slog doing some of the areas though, I've not done any on Antarctica. I'm not into doing things on the game just because they are there, if they aren't fun what's the point? I'll give some more of the tracks a proper try though. Thank yo for not just belittling my opinion because I have played CoD, which for some reason seems to be a crime against humanity here! :shrug

Kav, you're right about the nostalgia... nothing wrong with nostalgia, except nostalgia is not what it used to be.

But, imagine a tricky or ssx3 clone (and one thats got your wishlist nailed for a 3rd/4th gen console).... how long before you start thinking 'I've seen this before'?

Remember when they changed the Coke recepie, everyone compained and they changed it back... are you suggesting that there is nowhere to go? No chance of beating an already great concept?

For those of you who are fed up of the ghosts, constant competition and 'runs that need to be perfect', Have you ever gone back to World Tour? You know you can replay any level in world tour with any character, and any board/gear right? With real AI that you can knockdown too. It's pretty fun giving yourself low level stuff and trying to win. I know you can't play all of the levels, but you get a fair selection of them.

Don't you think they started on the game with the intention of making something different, and then had to change it later. like why are there huge red magnetic rails in the backcountry?

A not crap single player would have been nice too. more structure and sense of progression, i mean.

Can't they release blur as an XBL download! that'd be excellent, i still think the main problem to that game was the controls, the lack of character interaction too i suppose. I still maintain it is better than the current game!
It had a nice soundtrack too I liked it for a change over actual previously released artists and songs.

Dunno mate, but imagine sniper posts or the ability to hide up trees and take people out from half a mile away just as they're about the cross the finish line in a split screen realtime halfpipe lobby with justin beber making grunting noises in a live feed from his bathroom?

About the only thing I can criticise the new SSX for is the lack of the city / urban course. At the bottom of the mountain on SSX3 and OT you got a great city drop. I miss that.

What else? Well I guess a timer would be good on trick events / rather than the flow thing / which I'm not enamoured with.

There's a couple of other very small gripes I've got / but they're so tiny I can't be bothered to type em out/ its well near perfect as far as I'm concerned. Far better than I ever thought.

>Chez< As far as Burnout Paradise is concerned. Good game yes ... but compared to Revenge/ Dominator or Takedown....... For me it was a notch down certainly. They took that arcade spirit out of it... which although it didn't ruin it - it changed it for me.

Put me in this boat! :eek I cant play everyday due to other commitments such as work, fam, etc.....but the days I do play, it is commonly a 4 hour or more stretch and I usually have to force myself to quit. For me this is THE most addicting game I have played. Hell, when I cant play, I am on this forum reading and discussing it! :heh The only 2 games I can think of that even come close for me as far as the addiction would be Hot Shots Golf Out of Bounds or SSX3 and I have easily over 2 times the hours in SSX 2012 vs either of those games with no end in sight! I have played lots of other great games over the years such as Oblivian/Skyrim, the GOW series, etc......but even with those AAA titles, my addiction is over within a month and the game is put down.........we are going on 3 months with SSX and I am still playing like crazy.

The other thing is I have been focussed almost completely on trick it lately. I still want and need to dive deep (no pun intended) into wing suit racing which is SO much fun what I have played of it and standard racing as well. There is so much to do in this game IMO and I just wish there was more hours in the day.

I LOVE THIS GAME. :thumbsup

being able to boost up the Walls! Maybe that is down to the increased speed in the game rather than the physics actually I dont know.

I think it's a lot to do with the speed too. You could always jump off anything as long as you were going fast enough, but now you can rocket up vertical walls and everything is shaped like a half pipe so there's more jump opportunities.

I like the game. Its fresh, new. Innovative. With that said, lets not bring CoD into this. I have been seeing people on youtube compare SSX and CoD which makes no sense. *facedesk*

I WISH that i could only play for 4 or 5 hours a day... I usually put in a minimum of 11hrs actual play time. My thumbs have no feeling in the tips and are permanently deformed. My hands often feel and look like they were run over by a truck.

Funny you say that, there was a very vocal minority of Burnout fans that really didn't like Paradise at all.

Sometimes a game just doesn't click with you. That doesn't mean it's "crap" or "terrible" it means it's not for you. That's too bad for you... I think both Burnout Paradise and SSX 2012 are great games... but that doesn't mean you're an idiot and it doesn't mean the game sucks, it just means it isn't for you.

Good point, it's just I have been waiting so long for a new SSX to come out one the new consoles, apart from blur, that I am just pretty annoyed at how it turned out.

I don't get how people like it, it boggles the mind!

Also can someone explain to me why everyone hates CoD here? Not a massive discussion I am just curious, maybe you think you are gaming hipsters or something, I don't know

While, for one, it gets boring rather fast, just like most of the FPS genre.
People put that game on a pedestal and that nothing else matters.
Whenever a new COD is announced, they think it'll be the best yet,
but when they play it they bitch about it being the same and actually like
the previous version.
Activision is milking it to the ground, just like certain EA titles.

Your a teenager, so of course you would love COD, because that is what
most of your friends play, but i didn't bother to play something i didn't like.

This new SSX is fun for me anyways, and your looking at all the negative,
and don't give the game a chance, since you want instant action and satisfaction.

Probably because we are all different, and not everyone sees the world in the same way as you.
Variety, it's a veritable spice of life!

The new SSX is superb IMO. Defy reality and have fun: that's what SSX always meant to me. This game delivers both, in a slightly different way than the previous titles. If you're happier with the previous titles, that's great - you can still play them.
