You should try to verify independently what your parents tell you. I'm sure they mean well, but Moms still lie straight to your face to instill their own version of reality on you which they feel will make you safer. You should feel shocked, not by our habits, but by how your constructed reality is being challenged. When you see that normal healthy intelligent individuals are doing something that you find to be dangerous or harmful you should check your premises from which your beliefs are formed. It can be really surprising sometimes.

Doyle is absolutely right. It's like when they told you about Santa Claus... At your age you already know, right? :heh I forgot what age I was, but when I learned that both my parents lied to me about the fat red man, I got a fat red face.

The important point is that parents also believe in some Santas without realizing. In fact, it's easy to argue that half of their beliefs are Santas!

I actual saw Santa so IN YOUR FACE!

It was late night. I was about 4-5. I came out of my room and I saw this mysteriously fat human. Or was it really a human? He was humming, but whispering to him self the beautiful words. Can't remember them now but I remember his voice. It was like Simon cowl, but a little deeper. At a sudden moment, he turned around, put up a shocked face and as rapidly and full of strength as a lightning, our red creature jumped through a closed door.

Royank, I used this K2, or spice as it's called here. I smoked it at least twice a week for three months. This was about two years ago now. Don't believe the hype, it's just like normal weed, but weaker. It's been banned here now though since last year.

I'm decent at unwinding myself through music, thought and exercise. I'm certainly not against drugs and alcohol, however I don't believe they're for me. I'm addicted to the feeling of being in control, and the endorphins from exercising boost confidence immensely.

Tobacco isn't my favourite thing out there. Its supposed calming effects don't seem to be worth the potential addiction, in my eyes. I'm cool with marijuana, but I do believe that you have to be mature about the subject and its culture before you get sucked into it.

Alcohol is also fine, but again, moderation is important.

I often turn innocent childhood games into drinking games... like uno. drunk uno. pretty awesome mixing budwieser and smirnoff lol but im not an alcoholic because i dont emotionally or physically depend on alcohol. Ive never drank so much i blackout or get sick. its a nice get-away-from-my-conscious-and-excuse-for-bail-money activity.

In my opinion, drinking is ok if youve worked a long 40 hour week and just wanna relax and hang out with friends and maybe get a little crazy. drinking is not ok if your sucking up all my f**king tax money sitting on SSI and blowing it on alcohol getting sh*tfaced everyday to the point where alcoholics annonymous has your cell phone on speed dial.

I've tried pot before, but it never did anything for me, just a waste of money.

As for the smoking... i am a smoker and im about to quit if these prices get any higher ($7.50 a pack in Jersey). and this is just as much of a waste of money as pot is, i know, but i hate to say im addicted. i figured i might as well enjoy it while i can afford it.

Hard to find bad things to say about weed except for the social stigma. So many tihngs in my life would crumble if it was known that I'm a pothead.

But if you weren't planning on doing anything for the whole day anyway, what's the harm of a little wake'n'bake?

Would it be OK for everyone else's tax dollars to be used when you're in hospital being treated for smoking related diseases?

i'm a senior in university. i drink nearly every weekend, smoke weed on the daily, and unfortunately have become addicted to cigarettes.

i agree that weed is by far the best of the bunch, not only the feeling but also the repercussions. weed has very little effect on you physically in the long run and i would say it probably varies from person to person so giving an overall estimate of it's effects is ultimately useless. weed should be legal if cigarettes and alcohol are legal. plain and simple.

like many people have said, it's all about moderation. don't do something if you know you won't get shit done because you're doing it. i.e., don't smoke pot if you know you won't do your homework. don't drink if you have to drive. don't smoke cigarettes if you want to have lungs when you're 80.

i have the same situation as gondee, my brother fucked his shit up because he tried weed, then ecstacy, then coke, then oxi, etc... you just can't be a dumbass about it all and it will be fine.

I've softened my personal opinion of weed over the course of living up here - a lot of it was colored by the destruction it caused my brother. But I've seen many people who I never thought would smoke light up on the regular up here and they are fine. So if you can handle it, that's fine. I won't smoke it as a personal choice, but if you light up on the weekend and can still hold down a full-time job and excel in life, more power to you. I think that's part and parcel of living in Portland for so long. :lol

If you use weed as a springboard to something else ala my brother, then yeah, you're an idiot.

I drink several times every week, and must confess that I'm addicted to cigarettes.

I've tried weed a few times, basically because many of my friends are Americans, but it's nothing I want to continue with.

Hi All:

First of all, I have never experimented with drugs. Doing so has been scientifically proven to cause burnout, sickness and death. I have smoked cigarettes several times in my life; however, I felt like I was going into cardiac arrest after smoking them. After that experience, I decided that "cancer sticks" weren't for me. Life is too short. Why make it even shorter by engaging in an activity linked to cancer and heart disease? I don't drink that frequently either (i.e., twice a year). I save the libations for Christmas and Easter. Even then, I only drink red wine, since it is known to be, when consumed in small amounts, beneficial to the heart.

I guess that my stance on drugs, alcohol, and weed is very similar to Kubi's.

But mine stance is obvious because even if I wanted to, I couldn't buy neither of those things. I still believe it's bad, though. :D

Also, I saw someone mention that :pimp should be legal. Does that mean, it's illegal? Does that mean, you smoke illegal stuff? So many of you, that it means, that theres :pimp dealers all around us! :eek

You disgust me.

Hi Bennieboj:

When I was a English graduate student in college, I witnessed several of my friends experiment with weed, acid, mushrooms, and other drugs. In a number of months, these individuals dropped out of the graduate program, and, later, were getting into trouble with the law. It is sad, however, since these individuals were bright and articulate scholars before they experimented with "junk." I remember the times (i.e., before these persons decide to go on "drug trips") when I discussed (i.e., with my former friends) where we were going to celebrate after we received our graduate school diplomas. It was even more tragic when I was celebrating my graduation with other graduate students, and had to remember all the potential scholars who "fell by the wayside" due to taking mind-altering substances. This is why I am against the use of any sort of drug, including weed.

Should marijuana smokers be arrested? No. But, there is always the chance that they'll end up falling into the category of formerly talented individuals who "threw their lives away" due to drug use.

Yeah I'm now in the situation which you described (about you in college, except I'm at university atm)
Not that they're all tripping like hell or something. They're just throwing away their study point etc... and it doesn't seem to bother them at all :dead
They don't even try to study properly for their exams, tasks, .....

It's just a wrong disposition, conviction,.....
It's not because you're going to college/university that you have to provoque and misbehave...

I think the stuff described in this topic have something to do with that.
I never said they were the main cause, the people themselves should also have some responsability for their deeds.

This.

The sad part is, it's mostlly down to the person themselves, and how well they can control themselves and their minds.

Personally, i'm against any narcotics you can name. If your mind is just a byproduct of some conveniently firing electrons and chemical reactions inside a pecularly shaped lump of flesh, is it really a good idea to mess with said chemical reactions?

Not to mention that if you're addicted, and i don't mean just the casual one blunt a day malarky, i mean seriously addicted to any of it. what is there left for you? another day sacrificing moral itegrity for one more buzz.

I know that probably sounds like armchair philosiphy, but that's just my stance on it.

as for tobacco, normal tobacco is fine(ish) but its the cigarettes that kill you, my mom handles every smoking ward in about a dozen hospitals in the area. let me tell you, it is not a pretty sight. i saw a guy with a tumor in his throught, he looked like a bullfrog, and they couldn't do anything about it. just think of the disparity that guy must have, knowing, and feeling, that every day might be his last because he might suffocate, his heart might stop, or a dozen other things, just because he liked setting something on fire and breathing it in.

as for drinking, yeah, moderation, no other way around it. its your responsibilty what you do with that, take care of yourself

I think all kinds of drugs should be legal, and if you take them, it's your problem.
And I don't understand what is so good about breathing is some smoke and letting it out again. My mum (smoker) told me it used to be relaxing and taste nice but now she just has the feeling that she has to.

You do realize that there are over 3,000 PROVEN hazardous chemicles in a single cigarette? let alone the questionable ones.

Not to mention that every third cigarette is a genetic mutation. one puff, two puff, three puff, and hey, you just took six years out of your life because you weakened your heart's DNA.
