Well, it's now official. All 29 of the miners in Montcoal, WV have been found. None of them survived.

If you're the praying type, please pray for the grieving families. I grew up in this area; it's one of the poorest states in the US, and in many cases the lost miners were the only breadwinners in the family.

Yeah, it's a dangerous, dirty job, and it's not exactly eco-friendly, and they certainly knew the risks. Still, it's sad when the risk is cashed in. Some of these guys were 2nd or 3rd generation miners.

I'm not the praying type but I will do it anyway. Someone I know very well was a miner, maybe not the most dangerous type of it but I know what risks they had to take. :(

Did the mine collapse?

Rest in peace.

All those poor families of the miners...

It was an explosion due to methane buildup.
Massey Energy had apparently been cited many times for poor ventilation, although they're claiming that poor ventilation had nothing to do with the buildup.

I had a cousin who literally got out of the mine just before it exploded. Family members say he's OK, but he won't talk about it. (Like any of us could blame him. I dare say he knew all 29 who died.)
