Might be some script talking pure sh**. There are scripts that say your comp is full of spyware and virus stuff but actually it is not.

Have you tried going through your autoruns to check if there's anything new, weird or unknown? If you're lucky you just have to uncheck a certain thing there and you won't see any red shield again.

It's pretty weird your software doesn't find anything. Are you sure the "red shield" is a part of your antivirus software?

Well, I'm starting to think that to, since my AVG isn't finding anyting.
Wait, that's not true. he found 20 tracking cookies, but i've got rid of those and the problem continues.

And whats autoruns? My text is in Dutch, you know :dead
But it does make part of my software

@bennie: no, I won't try avast for the simple reason that I don't want 2 antiviruses on my pc. the last time I did that, the two of them GOT IN WAR. and almost tore my pc apart from the inside. => fail.
and I'mnot deleting AVG. I'ts a good one.

EDIT: I think it's confirmed. my AVG picked up a virus called "FakeAlert". hmmmm...I'll have to check that out :glare

RE-EDIT: sorry, but I just had to say this: more evidence: I have TWO red shields in the lower right corner. I'm pretty sure that ain't normal....

Braveslash - Bennie asked me to help, but you're not going to like my advice.
If you do have a red shield in the system tray, Titan is probably right, you have Antivirus 2008. And as he says it is very, very, very nasty.

My ex-boss recently unleashed the fucker by opening one of those UPS/Fed-Ex SPAM emails. It took me 4 days to fix it!

And guess what I did? I completely re-built his machine! I wasted 2 days trying to fix it and I got deep into the system, using multiple tools and manually going thru the registry. Eventually it launched a SPAM relay. In the end I bought a new Hard disk and reloaded everything onto that.

So Braveslash, you need to makes sure of the following:
1. Have you got all the software on CD or downloaded that you need to re-install?
2. Do you have and external drive that you can copy all you data onto?
3. Does your PC have a factory reset option? Or do you have a XP operating system disk?

Tell me about your PC:
Desktop or Laptop?
Name brand or custom build?

If you answer these questions we can start to make a plan :)

it's good to learn how to rebuild your PC. In the old days (pre-2005) I did it every 6 months, but I was always buying new parts.

Yep AVG sux, I used the commercial version and I don't reccomend. I'm using the free version of avast, it's good.

Uhm, dutch, dunno :D
Run: msconfig
it will open a window. Browse through the tabs at the top until you find the list showing programs that automatically start with Windows booting.
Look for some name/file that you don't know and seems supsicious.

This should work (no rebuilt of Windows needed) because:

RE-EDIT: sorry, but I just had to say this: more evidence: I have TWO red shields in the lower right corner. I'm pretty sure that ain't normal....

This clearly proves you got a script running that is faking alerts (I'm pretty sure it's even running like once every 10 minutes). Your system detected it AND you have 2 alert windows which just can't be.

One of those must be badly designed and most likely tells you to go here and there to download/check this and that and there you go having a virus.

Get an update for your antivirus thing to be able to isolate the file from working or get rid of it through the system start (autorun) thing I mentioned.

Whow. Okay calm down. I'm getting a lot of info down here!
I have to read it all, understand it and try not to go crazy 'cuz my pc is going as slow enigma running vista.
@bennieboj: maybe it sucks with other people, but not with me
haven't had a virus in 5 years.
@Cosgo: I will try that. The name of the file I downloaded was xcodex.242.exe.
And no, it runs every 2mins=>not an improvement. Btw, I have antivirus 2009.
@ elevation: sorry but it will take sometime before I start calling you "lord".
And no, I'm not getting linux
@crisp: 1.normally, yes. But I can also take my pc to the store if necessary
2.Yes.
3.I think so, if that what you say is what I think it is.
-desktop
- custom
The rebuilding will be my last savior, sorry
@Titan: no, it wasn't porn. But you are right. It's stupid.
@ The hot legend: I had norton on my previous computer. It worked perfect, untill I had a virus he couldn't find, because the virus was inside that d*mn norto

Thats all I'm going to say. I can't take the slowness no more. normally, there would be the frusty emoticon, but let's not risk that.

If it keeps me safe, I will.
But first, the autorun thingy.
*things that qualify for "suspicious":
-jusched
-Reader_sl
-NMBgMonitor
-msmsgs
-Osyek
-xxx4445 => I don't trust this one. I'ts not in C:/WINDOWS or in my program files
I'll check out that last one for sure.

Even if you remove the startup program xxx4445 and search thru the registry removing all entries that refer to xxx4445. It will probably come back when you reboot.

Use Task Manager to stop the process and then find and delete the .exe - you may need to do this in safe mode

Try it, and run some anti-spyware programs as well.

Also monitor your Task Manager->Processes, sort by CPU% (click on the column twice) to see if the spyware is using a lot of CPU, it is probably what is slowing down your PC.

I can't make any guarantees - usually I end up rebuilding because it takes less time than troubleshooting the fuckers.

again=> text is in dutch. I'm sorry!! :heh do you mean Crtl+Alt+Del?
'cuz if it's that: I tried it, but I couldn't find the xcodex.242.exe. Unless it has an other name
....
I'l better check that too. :cheers

http://forums.techguy.org - They take a while but they always help. I can only recommend Avast!, which is annoying, forces the processes to be open, but does the job when it has to.

You should get HiJackThis and post it on there to get a faster response. Other than that I won't recommend anything that may not fix the problem, but Rogue Spyware is usually taken care of with SmitFraudFix

You've told me three times :glare
I found an xxx4445.exe at my task manager. Is it safe to end it and see what happens?
Anyways, I think I'm just gonna format my pc.
But I will get the SmitFraudFix. Must come in handy.

It's will only stop it running until you reboot, even if you search thru the registry and remove all the references to the file, then search thru your C: drive and remove the file, it will probably come back.
