here in Belgium the 2 biggest banks had troubles

• the biggest was just stupid, they bought a bank that was too expensive for them and they made other faults and mistakes
• thet second largest bank was just the victim of rumors. (eg: some people say: "they are bad" and averybody believes them) Its like saying 1+1=3 ^^ and everybody will believe them.....

what I mean is that nobody trusts anybody ^^
so we all get our money from the bank and but it in a big bag and hide it under our bed

First of all, it is this entire country that is in debt, which means it is ultimately you, the taxpayer, who is responsible. That's what the full faith and credit of the US government really means. So even if you aren't privately in debt, you are publicly. By about $50 trillion.

Second of all, this isn't simple. At all. And I can't explain it to you or anyone else in an easily digestible way. It is an extremely complex issue that takes a lot of active thought on your part. A soundbite just won't do it. This is why you won't hear about this in the media, because there is no solution. It is a problem based on the very foundations of our economy and our money systems.

The hard answer is that you have to educate yourself. You have to go and find out what fractional reserve banking is, and what it means historically. You have to learn the history of the Federal Reserve and the gold standard in this country. Or else you won't have a clue how we got to this point, and you might even think things can go back to the way they were.

What I'm telling you is to not try to package up and simplify what I am telling you, attempting to poke holes in it because you just know that what I say can't be true. You said it yourself that you have no idea what our current banking system means for you, the consumer and taxpayer.

I've provided you with a very good introductory educational resource. One of the main points in the Crash Course, actually, is that the next 20 years will be completely unlike the past 20 years. Which is a very important lesson for you.

The rest is up to you. I can't do it for you.

Regardless of whether you have your money in banks, you're part of the socieity of the United States, you'll be affected by it simply by virtue that everyone else will be affected by it.

FWIW, there was quite a bit of backlash against the 700 billion dollar bailout package, which is why it, in part, failed to pass the house. That won't keep it from being pushed through a second time, this time sweetened with more pork. It's a system-wide problem dude, whether or not I have $1000 in savings isn't gonna make much difference to that big of an issue.
