Update: This week's challenge will now end on Monday December 7. Weekly Challenges will now begin and end on Mondays.

Weekly Challenge #4

Hey guys, thank you to everyone who has been participating so far, and we hope to see more people joining up to try out the different challenges! Last week's challenge involved racing down a slopestyle track. This time, the tables have been turned, and now you will be tricking down a race track.

Challenge #4 - Racing Slopestyle - Snow Jam

Get the highest score you can in a Snow Jam race with a 5 minute time limit. What does that mean? Well, if you do the event, and you do a lot of tricks, and you reach the finish line in 4:59, you're fine. However, if the timer says 5:00 or above, you timed out. In week 2's freestyle challenge, we had a bunch of limits, but we're relaxing back a bit more since we presume no one has an ace tricking line already up their sleeve here. Still, make sure you read the exact rules below.

What is allowed: Monster tricks and combo building are allowed. You can ride back up the mountain if you found a good spot to do so.
What is not allowed: NEW: Using the area behind the starting gate is banned. Rail glitches like the one on Style Mile or Crows Nest that get you tens of millions of points are banned, even just for comboing. Also, using halfpipes is banned. You'd have to find one first, but it's banned.

Instructions:

1) Start a race on Snow Jam. It doesn't matter if it's in Single Event or Conquer the Mountain. If you use single event, keep default settings.
2) Get tricking! Use what ramps the track gives you or find your own opportunities to make the most of your run.
3) Finish before the race time is 5:00 or above.
4) Please, please show your full score before you finish. If you are still comboing across the finish line, we'll never know the full score you had.

Here, I already have my first submission. This is sort of a preliminary submission in case anyone is confused. Though, if you have a question, post here and we will answer it.

Good luck, everyone. I'm very interested in seeing the creative jumps and strats you guys will come up with.

The legality of the path I was planning to use for the beginning is questionable and I would like to ensure that it is allowed before I pour hours of work into it like last time. :lol Also, this run obviously isn't perfect, I can now consistently score around 600k on the part the video shows, so it may be a good path to use.

I'm sorry about the jump in the video, my recording software splits the long recording into smaller videos 14:44 in length and this just happened to go over from one video to the other.

You guys jump around and do 180s and go where you can in the actual slopestyle runs, right? I think it looks good to me. If the game doesn't reset you, it's part of the level. That's what I think.

We do the 180 trick, yes, but we don't go behind the start of the level. That's what made it questionable.

After loading up the game and testing things out, I see that you are able to ride around behing the start of the freestyle levels. If you guys are able to do that, and choose not to as self-made ban, then we should follow those limits too. I'll edit the first post then to show that. Thanks for pointing that out. I kinda thought it just reset you :shrug .

Oh, it's not banned as far as I'm aware, it's just that no one does it. :D
You can go behind the start line but if you go back far enough the game will freeze.

Hi All:

Here is my submission: SnowJam SSX3 Challenge 2,285,799 Points (Live Run—Read Description): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQHpZk2Ffps. Best, QP

Pretty solid improvement on my last run! This will be my second submission. I feel like using this path, I can definitely reach somewhere in the 5.5-range and I missed a 5 M run through several silly mistakes in this one. (Poor jump judgment, not flipping in MT, missed jumps etc)

It's a path filled with lots of minor and major improvements, and aside from the silly mistakes, I am happy with this run. I believe 7 M could be accomplished before this challenge expires. Fliper, you up for it?

Enjoy the run!

Also, @ QP, that's a pretty good run! You should get level 1 uber tricks out of the way before the first big ramp, and go up the mountain a bit more, try to find some unorthodox places to get points. Your tapping and FC are excellent, though! Also, good job on actually coming 2nd in the race. :P

Hi 898ppp:

Thank you for your kind words (I had no idea I came in second place)! Unfortunately, I don't have time this week to do anymore runs, so the run you see will be my final entry. Still, I had fun competing, even if the recording conditions were somewhat annoying (i.e., sitting on a stool behind a digital camera stacked atop the top of some of my favorite books, which, in turn, lies on a narrow, rounded isthmus called a chair's back).

By the way, I also commented on your 4.92 M point Snow Jam Free Style run on YouTube, and have some more questions on how to improve my Spin-First X's there. You're helping me become more comfortable with Spin-First X's, but it will take practice and muscle memory before I can pre-wind Spin-First X's without botching them. Obviously, your tapping skills are better than mine (to be honest, you, barring certain SSX3 Masters, have the fastest tapping skills that I've ever seen), but, to be quite honest, poor tapping never seems to ruin Perpendiculous runs when I use Spin-First X's. Rather, it's when I transition from a pre-wound FS 180 to three Back Flips (I'm simplifying things here) that I start getting Switches, and other unintended tricks.

Best,
QP

Am I the only one who feels like one week is not enough? At the end of every challenge, I always feel like my runs are missing something and I'm not satisfied with them. Not to mention that my schedule is pretty busy and I am not even an adult. I propose extending the challenges to biweekly.

We talked about this in the streams today. Rithek, 898ppp and I still want to keep the challenges weekly, but we might move this challenge's ending date to Monday then do new challenges on Mondays. Right now, you get a new challenge for the weekend but maybe only work on the first submission, then as things get serious, you hit the middle of the week and might be busy. I think switching to Mondays gives you the weekend to really work on a final submission. I don't want to make the final decision right here but we should have a decision about when the challenges end and how long they go soon.

Alright, sorry for all the change-ups, people, but we're changing up what day these challenges end, and that means this week's challenge gets a bit of an extension.

This week's challenge will now end on Monday December 7. Weekly Challenges will now begin and end on Mondays.

We still hope to keep these challenges going for a single week, but yeah, having the weekend at the end of the challenge period helps out those who are busy during the week. Also, since I have more time now, I'll just make public what I did a few days ago since it'll be my PB for a few days more. Here's my 3.745 million run With a bit of streaming live-comm.

---REMOVED because the post below this is my next submission---

Post subject:  Re: SSX 3 - Weekly Challenge #4

Triple post, yep, but I've got my third and probably final submission for this week's challenge. I've been working on my tapping and frame cancelling and all that jazz but I'm sure you'll understand that after a whole lotta attempts, my skills aren't as good as they could be but I crossed the finish line and that's what really matters. Anyways, my last submission is at 4.350 million points.

Also, I really hope some of you are just waiting to drop a great run on the last day, because it feels like not many people are doing this challenge. Was it just an unfortunately busy week? Or did you not like this specific challenge? We're open to comments and suggestions if this one just wasn't something you wanted to do.

I did put a few hours into the challenge, but I gave up on it because I found it frustrating. It's not about this specific challenge, but about freestyle in general. I can be pretty good at freestyle but I just don't enjoy it at all and I concluded that it just wasn't worth it. That's how I put out that Ruthless Ridge run yesterday.

I think that from now on, I will only participate in racing challenges, unless the freestyle one is particularly bizarre. :) I hope you understand.

Bro, is not any of that, I was really busy these last days, I really like that kind of challenge because freestyle is what I love, so I agree with Kubi on biweekly challenge, but I also know it's too long to wait then one week looks good, maybe I have some time tonight to try something (now here in Brazil are 1:50 pm the day 6) but is not sure, btw you guys imput awesome work at this challenge, nothing to say about the 898ppp run,its a great and smart path, and you surprised me insetik, this score is really high, since you play on race, congratulations to all of you guys (you too QP, great score, you will put some more attemp?) and hope rithek also put something great ..)

Post subject:  Re: SSX 3 - Weekly Challenge #4

Yeah, I too had to do a lot of resets to get my run. I guess that's when it gets frustrating. Not easy being a perfectionist, especially when Snow Jam is even longer than most Slopestyle tracks. If you don't enjoy a challenge, we would love to know so we can take that on board. I completely understand where you're coming from, thank you for your useful feedback! We will bring that into the future Weekly Challenges. :)

EDIT: YES Fliper! Awesome! Also, thank you, we're really glad you enjoy the Weekly Challenges. ^^

I joined this forum one year ago. It´s amazing to see you guys keep on using this game. I play this game since I´m little, and it´s beautiful to see it´s still alive. I´d love to participate in one of this, but I don´t have much time, also I compete in other games. But the most important thing, I don´t know how to do all those Monster Tricks :´D

Would a list of the best ones be enough or would you want more than that? I'm sure if you jump into someone's stream, they can do some quick visual stuff. Either way, we might start a new challenge soon so there would be a new thread for that and you can start out there.

If a text list is good enough, here are the main Monster Tricks to learn:

X-ecutioner: FS 180 Triple Backflip SSX-orcist
Stoneage: BS 180 Double Backflip Madonna
Alpine Star: FS 540 Double Backflip Karolicker

If you have played a good amount of the game, I'm sure you can throw in an extra spin at the end of a flip or such to get these.

Thanks for the advices. Yes, I´ve played it a lot since I was little. I know the main Monster Tricks. Maybe I expressed wrong what I meant to say. I usually play in the freestyle modes not regarding special attention to the tricks I do, I just play "for fun", although sometimes I like to break my own records. I meant I´ve never tried to do a freestyle track doing Monster Tricks constantly.

Thanks a lot, I´ll try to be at the next challenge :D

No, I´m from Spain :)
My father is from Portugal, and my parents both are portuguese professors and decided to put me that name. I´m able to speak portuguese ;) I´ve been in Brazil, I just love that country.
