Gotta say, this game wasn't on my radar. Its damn impressive once they fix the frame rate and tweak the controls a bit

Yeah I've got it. Played it a bit this evening. Its not SSX but its fun so far if a little clunky. I can see it being really good once I've mastered it all. Presumably there is some sort of progression system in it so you can get faster and better handling gear?

Playing it just makes me want a proper SSX even more :) Presumably EA are watching all this closely.

So what are peoples thoughts on this then? It does take some getting used to. The R2 jump button on the PS4 controller is a little awkward. It would be nice if you could remap that to the X button. I didn't really get enough of a play at it to unlock much but I got enough of an impression to think there was the core a decent fun game there. Its not SSX but its better than nothing as fas as a snowboarding game goes.

I had a look over on the Ubisoft forums and a lot of people are jumping to quite quick conclusions about it. Like playing it for 30 minutes and deciding its a lot of crap. It takes a bit longer than that to get used to and settle in. I worry that it'll get incredibly same-y after a while as far as the visuals go. Its just the same graphics everywhere and for a game of this generation they're not too great. There's some fairly low res polygons about the place, it all looks very blocky. As long as Ubisoft don't try to market this as a AAA game then I think it should find a decent fan base. I'll definitely be getting it anyway.

I really did enjoy it. Like I said in my other post, it needs work. It's not SSX in terms of style, but it close. I had times when playing where I held down the square button to boost and x to jump, but was doing nothing. Those habits I can't break. I Liked running into other players on the mountain seeing what they're doing and teaming up with them. This is probably a buy for me

Currently taking part in the second closed beta of this over the weekend. Seems like there's been quite a few noticeable improvements over the first beta. Graphically it looks more polished too, which was my big grumble before. They need to add more tricks to the snowboarding, it feels pretty limited at the moment. I'd also like the ability to remap the controls on the PS controller. Otherwise it definitely gets a thumbs up from me and worth checking out when it comes out on the 2nd of December.

Steep looks interesting. But, it doesn't seem to have the glamour of SSX.

I had a moral obligation to do this in Steep:
Image ;)

By the way, the game is gorgeous. I've preordered the gold version and I'm planning on buying everything they release for it. SSX 3 is by far my favorite SSX game, and Steep, both closed and open beta, has given me a metric ton of everything I loved in SSX3 (except for the unique characters :( , controls :[ , tricks :sad , and the crazy halfpipes :cry ). I can only imagine how great the finished game is going to be. I'm hoping for the success of Steep, not only for Steep itself but also for the future of SSX. Please, EA, do not forget about SSX.

Yeah I've been having a lot of fun with the open beta this weekend. I've been leaving feedback on the Ubisoft beta forums too. The game as it stands does need a lot of fine tuning and there are some curious design choices that somewhat remind me of the more frustrating moments of SSX 2012. There's no death pits in Steep but there are a shit ton of this avalanche barriers dotted around the place.

I'll definitely be getting the finished game though.

Post subject:  Re: Steep

So did anyone here get the full game? I'm really enjoying it so far even if it is a bit limited. The trick system isn't the best but the sense of exploration is really well done and there's a decent sense of satisfaction you get from getting a good run from the top of the mountain to the bottom. There seems to be a lot of criticism on various forums from people saying 'its not SSX' but as a huge SSX fan I do feel at home in the game. The balance between arcade fun and a vague sense of realism is fairly well done for the most part. I find the various challenges in the game kind of secondary fun to just exploring the mountains, although once you've been playing it a while you do realise there's not a huge amount of variety to it all. Some very pretty graphics though and nice lighting and physics effects. Its ended up a better game than I was expecting, especially from testing the early alpha build of the game.
Be interesting to see what the future holds for and how far Ubisoft develop it.

The multiplayer does throw up some cool moments. Here's me meeting a boarder on the summit of the Matterhorn https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPtXJHQxmSU

I'm absolutely loving it! The wing suit missions are a bit tricky and it all takes a bit of getting used to but it's a great snow sports game. Navigating is so good, its amazing to just pop up the map or the binoculars, pick a spot and teleport immediately with no loading

I watched a few live streams this weekend. Reminded me of Shaun White Snowboarding, so I'm going to give it a pass.

Looks beautiful though.

So Ive played Steep for a while now and I've kinda lost interest in it. You get trapped on every little twig and its not very forgiving once your stuck on a fence etc...

Its nice to freeride but as a game its a bit.... meh
Looks great, plays ok. The first person view is crazy (I can see why the last SSX left it out) but I like that they did it anyway

Its to real for its own good for me - but others will like that

Im ready for SSX - COME ON EA

Playing a bit more of this since the new Alaska map came out. Looks like Ubisoft are going to keep on supporting it for the time being, which is good. The Alaska map is free, which is again good but I bet thats only because no one would pay for it if they tried to charge it. If these maps keep on coming out then then there will probably being quite a lot of game by the end of it all.

Problem is its all at the mercy of a very clunky trick system and some really infuriating and unforgiving game play elements like the stupid G force system, which seriously gets in the way of things.

The other issue is the map is very same-y after a while. Its just snow, rocks and trees, endlessly. Alaska might as well be the Alps, it pretty much just looks the same.

The game is best enjoyed as a very chilled out free roam experience with some your favourite music streamed over it.

Its all very pretty. If a new SSX could have these sorts of graphics but with SSX's gameplay and world design it was be phenomenally good.

Took an absolute age for me to get this (PC issues) but I did recently and it's fun as hell, but that Snowfest DLC is majorly disappointing. I'd much rather have had that be free and Alaska be paid, I had way more fun w/ that than with Snowfest. It feels like they were just trying to cash in on the SSX audience, and they did a really sloppy job with it. Still stunning at it's base tho, imo
