Well, I've been playing Tricky for a long time, gotten a medal in everything for Mac, Psymon, and Zoe in Showoff. But I've been trying to do race with Psymon and Mac. Psymons alright, I have a nice racing board with him, but I don't know about Mac.

I'll explain it better.
Mac's current stats:
Edging: 16
Speed: 24
Stability: 18
Trick: 40

I've been thinking of using one of the two boards for him:
Hotrod (+1 to all but Trick, Alpine)
or
Buzzsaw (+4 to all and +5 to speed, Freestyle)

I also have AnimeMac but I figured that wouldn't be better than Buzzsaw. The thing is, should I be going for Alpine while racing or just my best board? What are the pros and cons of each?

Note: I'm not very far in Race with anybody so I can easily get their stats up.

I use Marty and his Alpine board... despite not being the best, I think you can speed up faster with it than with the Uberboard. Which one do you guys use?

It depends on how comfortable you are using an Alpine board. Because of the rubberband AI, if the Apline board gives you any major advantage over a Freestyle board, you wouldn't see it because the AI characters will only be a little bit further behind you.

Alpine boards are built for speed, however, they can be a little hard to control. I was perfectly able beating race events with Mac on his strongest Freestyle board at the time. It might take a little practice and shortcut finding to be very good in race events with Freestyle board, but winning races is definitely possible.

I say if you can handle an Alpine board, go for it. Try it out and see if it helps you out. Otherwise, you should just stick to Ma's strongest Freestyle board, or try out his BX board.

Also, you may want to consider completing Mac's trickbook to get his Uberboard, which will increase his Stats by the most (+7 Speed, +9 rest I believe).

You would do best to use his best freestyle boards, Mac's Alpine board is pretty low on his board list IIRC, even his freestyle boards give him better overall speed than his alpine.

Mac's not the one to race much, but his freestyle board's benefits often outweigh the costs they give to racing style.

I noticed that with Psymon for the Uber Tricks, he wouldn't do his signature move no matter which grab I did. But as for the tricks, Mac has a lot of trick points so I can stand it... :heh

Yeah, I think he's saying Psymon couldn't do his uber if you were using the Alpine board. :)

I usually just use the highest board I have.

Alpine boards are lame anyway.

If it were SSX, the boards you use would actually make a difference. But in Tricky, each characters Uber board is as good as it gets, showoff or racing wise.

Yeah! *Yells around in bedroom "Master! Master!"* I finally got Master rank for Mac! (Now I just have Kaori and/or Zoe to do so my friend doesn't have to get blown away because of stats.) But one thing, I don't think the Uber Board would have helped much for Alaska. I used Famicon (the third best board for Mac, second if you don't include Uber,) and I manadged to get gold in Alaska. But I will say this, BX boards on Aloha Ice Jam and Alaska! They are to narrow for Alphine and to annoying for Freestyle.

But here is a question that has been bugging me, how the heck does Tricky figure out the medal you get for races? In Meseblanca, I got a Silver because the semi-finals I lost to Zoe, but in Alaska I got third in the semi-finals and ended up with a gold!
