... I'm still listed on the SSX-RACE-Highscores as Chris30 and so is my buddy Z.

I just remembered the loooong time we practiced at these times :) , such a pity that we had the PAL-disadvantage. But it's really time I get out the old SSX again and try to beat these scores ... :yes

Sorry for announcing this, but i had to :)

my own rule for the original SSX is that if I can't get a top 3 time, I don't send them in.....I mean, those scores have been up there for how long now, and unless I can put up a wicked time, no point in knocking someone else out for number 9 or 10 spot......(which is why you don't see any times of mine....yet). :D

No such thing in regards to SSX. The engine just drops frames if it needs to but PAL renders and refreshes at the same rate as NTSC. SSX is one of those rare game to do that.

Laidback wasn't it you who had some wicked time in Alaska? 2nd place IIRC. Apologies if it was someone else.

yeah, i do..... :) I forgot about that, thanks. :thumbsup
I tried to go back and do even better than that, about a month or two ago, but I couldn't get within 20 seconds of that time.....everything just seemed a little off......
The only one I am currently sort of working on is mesablanca on the original SSX.....if I can shave another 8 seconds, I can break top 3 on that track, and I know where I need to save all that time too..... of course on that run I am just trying to replicate FBX's vid, so even if I could get a faster time than his I won't be posting it, since I wouldn't be there in the first place w/out his help....still, I'll take 2nd ;P

good luck, whats your time now, i used to be mad nice at that track, my linewas almost identical to fbx, except the beggining where he doesnt go to the right, and then i barely even use that method, so i guess il try for that too, i just gotta get new times in mesablanca and mcm, and ill be set :yes

You gotta do that sneaky bit at the beginning, but there are a number of slightly different paths to take that get you jumping over the river at roughy the same time. Experiment with them all so that you're not constantly doing restarts when you slightly miss the turn.

I felt bad too about pinching fbx's line, but if it's the fastest route whatcha gonna do? It's really the only way to generate competition and as long as you give credit where it's due, I think that's all people can ask.

I found the line FBX uses at the start to be about a full second faster than cutting through the trees earlier and hitting that log with boost..... I've gotten my time down to 2:08, it was 2:11, but got the 2:08 first try today (haven't played it in about 2 weeks!) but I still got to lose 7 seconds to challenge either of the "greats"....
I think maybe it is time to ditch elise and start using zoe.... :)

Yep, Zoe is the fastest in short courses. Only on SSX, but she is the fastest. For longer courses Hiro and Elise can make up the diff, but Zoe is top 2 at least.

Thanx for the info, I never realized that before, that the stats made that much difference. I mean, d-uh! of course they make a difference, but I didn't realize just how much they meant in the original SSX.....well, it may be a little while, but leveling zoe up and getting some mesa runs down with her will definitely be on my to-do list.....
Thanks again, gondee and ssx4ever. :china :)

I read that somewhere in a post by one of the EA-members, still I believed it just for SSX3, since the post was in late 2003. And I noticed that all top times are americans, and mostly a good time ahead, ...
But I just wrote it down, because at that time it was the reason we stopped trying to break records, not that I wanted to play down the other records. :)

Nope, a lot of the top times are now ssx4ever in Australia (PAL) and FirebrandX (NTSC.) They've tested it extensively - no difference in the SSX games. That's why we don't have separate scoreboards. :)

That's interesting. How did you ever find that out in the first place?
