Hi everybody. I've been reading here on and off for a few months, and I thought that I'd finally register and show my support.

My 7-year-old son played the OT demo (PS2) and thought it was great. He loves SSX3, but his smaller hands don't let him pull MTs very easily in 3, so I'm considering getting OT for him.

For a 7-year-old, do you think that OT's control system will be too difficult, or that the game will be too challenging? He mainly plays Spiderman 2, Katamari 1 and 2, and he does pretty well.

Where else could I ask this?!

Cool, were glad to have you here DJD :)

As for the controls for SSX On Tour, the racing is exactly like ssx 3 in control setup..but to perform you monter tricks on SOT you use the right analog stick instead of the shoulder buttons..so it's much easier than ssx3. Your son will probably like it since it's probably the easiest of all the SSX's in difficulty.

The trick system is much easier to pull off Monsters in OT, yea. If he doesn't have a problem pushing from one direction to another, he can even do the Level 2 Monster Tricks no problem.

Welcome DJD! :)

Thanks guys - glad to be here!

I'll trust you on this. I'm careful about the content in today's games, so OT makes a great choice in this context.

There's nothing bad in OT, at least not if your son has ever seen his parents in their underwear. :heh The worst you can do is undress your character down to their boxers or bra and hot pants.

Other than that, the game totally earns it's E rating. :yes

The only thing I could see giving him some trouble is the shred events, some of them are pretty tough.

and welcome! :)

Thanks vix! What's a game without a good challenge, right?

I showed it to my wife, and she likes it. All clear. Maybe he'll get it this weekend. Then I'll be able to play, too! That hadn't even occurred to me until now!

The only thing I would imagine at all that would be bad is one song (Bat Country.) I mean, it doesn't cuss or anything but it talks about drugs, but it says about how much the singer is suffering. But you wouldn't even notice though except for the tune when you are playing.

I don't know, thought that might be something to take notice.

Thanks for the heads-up about the song! Our son loves the demo music, so it's important to know about things like that. When he got old enough to understand lyrics in music, I had to stop letting him hear a LOT of stuff! Now I can't listen to, say, Gang Starr, except in the car driving to and from work.

He hasn't gotten OT yet, though; still waiting for a suitable occasion, like next weekend.

i think OT would be suitable for your kid, it's somewhat easier than ssx 3 in my opinion

Cool, thanks amutt!

Still haven't gotten OT. My wife was sick last Sunday, so we had to cancel the outing. This weekend, though, she's resolved to buy it. She said she would buy something else too.... oh yeah, I wore out two of our two (that means both) controllers with SSX3, so we need more. I miss a ton of tricks because of the controllers.

youre welcome DJD :cheers

i broke the controller that came with my PS2 cuz of SSX3 too :heh. it got way too frustrating on peak 3 so i just stopped and sold the game before i got too p.o.'d

you should definitely take advantage of the fact that there are cheats in the game if your son is playing because, well, if you make him a CAC its gonna be pretty hard in the beginning :)

plus, what other way can you get royank's board in the game as an amateur/rookie?

FINALLY got On Tour this weekend!! My older son and daughter (7 and 5.5) have totally hogged it; I've played like 3 events, while they've played about 10 hours together. They're working on one user profile together, and they reached Rookie status last night, just before bedtime.

I'll let them work through the game the hard way, without cheats. My son beat me in a shred competition, and my daughter beat me in a race. It's nice that On Tour's relative simplicity levels the playing field a bit. An outstanding game for kids!

Now I just have to make sure that my kids don't say "Son of a Birch" or "Between the Sheets" at school!

That's it? They finally got to rookie after playing 10 hours? (Just kidding. Games always prove to have a challenge when you first play them, no matter what.) But I can imagine the first one and another, but not the second, oh well...

Just to warn you DJD, the game gets progressively harder until it's outrageously tough once they reach Pro-Master level. Some of those shreds are difficult even for people who have played SSX for the entire series.

That's okay, gondee - I'm not worried about it. When the game gets too hard for them, they'll probably re-play it.

My wife and I have taken care to help our kids recognize that their abilities will increase with a combination of experience (comes with age) and practice. Their self-esteem isn't hurt if a task is simply beyond them; they just keep trying, or try it later.

In any case, most of their OT time is spent in 2-player mode. When they stop playing it so much, I might actually get a chance to play it.

It's really cool to watch them get better over time. I'm just a sappy parent.

OT really is an awesome game for kids! Thanks again for your input everyone!

I'm thinking of the nipple shot feature in the game. :P

Well, On Tour is gone. Our younger son just started walking, and children LOVE electronic gadgets, so he stepped on the PS2 while On Tour was being played, resulting in a huge scratch that can't be fixed. :heh

I'm sure that I'll buy it again in a month or two, but wife-acceptance factor is low, considering that we'll have paid $60 for On Tour, in the end.

The worst part is that it looked like it was worth playing, and now I have to wait even longer. lkfja;dklja;lskdfj oh well.

It shoudl only be like $20 or $30 at this point. But I understand about wanting to get a new one, and the total cost therein. You might be able to find a used copy for less - it wasn't very popular in sales. :no

You're right; we paid $30 at the giraffe store, and it'll probably drop to $20 in the near future. I insist on buying our games new whenever possible, so that I can keep them PERFECT if I want to. My wife has already agreed to buy it again, so maybe I can convince her just before land$caping season starts.

'E' for everyone doesn't nescesarily mean for EVERYONE... I mean everyone can mean ages 6+ because look at SSX 3, it's reated 'E' for everyone, but you also gotta note that some of the characters say 'crap' and some parents consider that a bad word... just fyi

"E" for everyone is a general audience-based rating... people take the content of a game differently. Yeah, it doesn't necessarily mean EVERY single person :heh

Actually, it is rated E 10+, so I think it was orginally made for ten-year-olds, but hey, my sister plays rated T games and she is only twelve. So I don't think this is a problem for a seven-year-old with parents around.
